This painting was recreated by Ruben Carrillo After Paul Signac 1896, as a study of pointillism by the Masters. What was learned in this artistic exercise was that drawing is a way of seeing. You see more when you draw and you begin to see things you never noticed before. Museums often encourage students to bring sketchbooks and draw the paintings they like. The advantage is that you have the artist's composition, format, and colors worked out for you. As you look at the painting as a reference you ask yourself " what color did the artist begin with? What kind of brush was used? What direction are the brush strokes going? Is the edge soft or hard? Was the paint applied thinly or thickly?
